Student Association Branding & Advertising

Student Association Branding & Advertising

The Queens College Student Association (“SA”) approached me with the task of creating a suite of advertisements to promote their largest series of events: Finals Week. During this week-long period, the Student Association partners with Queens College officials to provide students with extended study hours and stress-relieving activities. My primary goals were to:

  1. Increase attendance and awareness for events and study areas. Queens College is primarily a commuter school, which means students are not always on campus to learn about new events. Personally distributing individual schedules to students ensured that more people were aware of all the amenities that were offered.

  2. Strengthen the Student Association’s image. The Student Association is the bridge between Queens College students and administrative staff/officials. To strengthen their professionalism and presence around campus, I created a set of branding guidelines; it pays homage to Queens College’s official colors, yet is distinct enough for the Student Association to be recognized as its own entity.

palm cards & WAY-FINDING SIGNAGE

A common complaint across campus was the lack of communication about events and activities. To remedy that, we passed around double-sided 5x7in. palm cards with all Finals Week information. Large poster board signs were also posted throughout campus, displaying study hours and event hours for each respective location. This allowed students to immediately recognize what event was occurring near them at any given moment.

Apparel illustrations

A core component to Finals Week festivities is revealing new t-shirt designs. Free shirts do more than simply attract students to events — they foster a sense of community where students can proudly show off Queens College apparel for years to come.

While apparel illustrations are an opportunity to break away from the established branding, I made sure to incorporate a familiar element in the designs: Queens College’s mascot, the Knight.
